How are people supposed to find my Web site?
There are literally millions of Web sites on the World Wide Web.That's what Search Engines are all about. Search Engines allow people to search vast databases to locate information and Web sites specific to the search criteria.

What are the different types of search engines?
There are many different types of search engines on the Web. Some engines crawl through the Internet automatically indexing keywords. Some engines merely ask for your url and automatically index your Web site, locating the keywords using their own software.
Directories, on the other hand, like Yahoo!, manually categorize your site and place you in their directory.

How can I get my site listed on Search Engines?
Not all search engines use the same method to accept your site.

· Keywords - some ask you to furnish keywords that describe your site. For instance, if your site is dedicated to the sale of antique radios, you would select keywords that are related, like: radio, antique, RCA, Crosley, collectibles, vintage, restoration.
· Meta Tags - are html tags that are hidden within the html text of your Web pages. These tags are not visible to the viewer, just some search engines. Click here for more information on the use of meta tags.
· Automatic Indexing - just furnish your url and they will do the rest.

What about Directories?
Directories like Yahoo! or any industry/organizational directory will require direct communication with the site administrators. Follow the instructions on their site or communicate directly with the Webmaster.

How about those companies that offer to get my site listed on hundreds of search engines?
There may be a thousand search engines but the majority of only use the top dozen or so. If your listed on an obscure search engine. it is of limited value. And, most importantly,and you position in any engine's listing is key. If you're not on the first page or two, it's not going to do you much good.Beware of the hypes. Keeping a site on the top of the key search engines is a daunting task that can't be accomplished by paying a $19.95 fee.
